WELTFILME is a non-profit organisation based in Berlin, Germany. We support filmmakers and their work with cooperative projects in developing countries, establish sustainable film training opportunities on site, and strengthen local media landscapes so that a broader audience can access topics of global concern.

FOSTERING FILMMAKERS

We support filmmakers every step of the way — from the first idea, through the shoot, to post-production. Whether fiction or documentary, local voices and creative visions are always front and centre.

TRAINING FILM INSTRUCTORS

We train film instructors to train others in their own fields and beyond. As qualified professionals, they are able to teach film courses independently in their own countries.

SHARING KNOWLEDGE

We support local partners on site with film equipment and teaching materials. These organisations collaborate with the newly trained instructors to run independent film workshops that prepare participants for an array of jobs in media.

FILM SCHOOLS FOR ALL

Since 2018, we have been cooperating with YMCA Ghana in building the Media Hub Education Centre (MHEC), an integrative and low-barrier film school in Accra. In addition, we have teamed up with the African University College of Communications (AUCC) , YMCA Ghana and Deutsche Gesellschaft für Internationale Zusammenarbeit (GIZ) GmbH to develop DIGITAL FILM SCHOOL AFRICA, an online learning platform for filmmaking and its associated practices.

CINEMA FOR ALL

We make sure that the films created in these projects reach a large audience. These fiction and documentary films travel across West Africa through pop-up cinema tours, providing access to spectators who wouldn’t otherwise see them.

FILMS WITHOUT BORDERS

The films can be viewed online and on television. This allows us to garner attention for important topics and promote dialogue and exchange among spectators—whether through online interaction or while sitting together in front of a TV.

BUILDING CAREERS

The films are screened at international film festivals where they gain attention and acclaim. The filmmakers have the opportunity to present their work and themselves, thereby connecting with the global film community.

CREATING NETWORKS

Together with our partners — YMCA Ghana, SLADEA (Sierra Leone), NAEAL (Liberia), University of The Gambia, and Cinéma Numérique Ambulant Togo — we are building the Film Network West Africa (FNWA). The synergy of our collaborative efforts is strengthening the West African film landscape across national borders.
